Sant'Andrea in Percussina (San Casciano Val di Pesa)

Sant'Andrea in Percussina has gat ancient origins and it is one of the most charming and Picturesque villages near San Casciano Val di Pesa. The property of Florentine Bishops since it was built, it became pant of Florentine Republic in the XIIIth century, and later it was fortified. It became a castle to defend against the danger coming from the country side of Siena it was situated near a very important road were pilgrins and merchands travelled to reach the francigena road in Poggibonsi; it has bean called "strada regia romana" since the XVth century and it was the main connection between Florence and Rome until the motorway "Autosole" was built

Niccolò Machiavelli

This is were one of the most important characters of the Florentine history lived, Niccolò Machiavelli (Florence 1469 - 1527) at the beginning of 1513, after the fall of Repubblic and after the return of the Medici to Florence, N.Machiavelli was obliged to leave his task and together with his family he went to live in his father's land of Albergaccio, where the started meditating about the problems in Italy here he wrote "discorsi sulla prima deca di Tito Livio" and "Il Principe", one of the greatest masterpieces about political literature.

Nowadays the village has remained unchanged and under the XIVth century vaults everything reminds us of this great Florentine writer.
